Delayed Opening of Josiah Henson Public School
We continue to be very excited about the new Josiah Henson Public School, which will help support our growing student population in the Pickering Seaton community.
We are reaching out to families of students currently attending Westcreek PS, Elizabeth B Phin PS, Highbush PS and DDSB@Home – Elementary scheduled to attend Josiah Henson PS to let you know the school opening scheduled for September 2025 has been delayed.
We recognize the delay in the opening of Josiah Henson PS, impacts families in different ways, and we appreciate what families have shared about these specific concerns.
We will continue to work with the contractor to try and reduce this delay wherever possible. At this time, the updated timeline targets a building completion date of October 2025, with occupancy by students and staff shortly thereafter.
Moving forward for the 2025/2026 school year, Michaëlle Jean PS and Rosemary Brown PS will be the temporary locations of Josiah Henson PS until the new building is completed.
Our school district will continue to share further information to the school community as these plans are completed.
